Launch of Memorial Pin in remembrance of
Mayerthorpe’s fallen officers

March 3, 2005 brought our nation to a state of disbelief. Constables Anthony Gordon, Leo Johnston, Brock Myrol, and Peter Schiemann tragically lost their lives in service to their country as members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, while carrying out their duties near Mayerthorpe, Alberta.
On Thursday, June 9, 2005 a commemorative pin, sanctioned by the RCMP, will be officially launched, dedicated to the memory of four of Canada’s finest. Proceeds from the sale of these pins will be directed to education trust funds for the children and disbursed to the widows and parents of the fallen four, through the “ We Remember 2005 Trust Fund".
The official launch will be hosted in the Amethyst Room of the Mayfield Inn & Suites (16615 - 109 Avenue) Edmonton, Alberta on June 9, 2005 commencing at 4:00 pm. The media and public are invited to attend. Pins will be available at the event and at select locations at a cost of five dollars per pin.

March 3, 2005 brought our nation to a state of disbelief. Constables Anthony Gordon, Leo Johnston, Brock Myrol, and Peter Schiemann tragically lost their lives in service to their country as members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police while carrying out their duties near Mayerthorpe, Alberta.
On Monday, June 27, 2005 the commemorative pin, We Remember 2005, officially sanctioned by the RCMP will be front and center for it’s Calgary launch, dedicated to the memory of four of Canada’s finest. Hours prior to the Edmonton launch on June 9 the first order had been quickly picked up by a handful of distributors in Alberta. All 25, 000 have since been sold, more pins have been ordered and 2000 will be on hand for this event. Orders have been pouring in from across Canada at a steady pace. The overwhelming response exemplifies Canadian’s respect for law enforcement officers.
The Calgary launch will take place at Fort Calgary, Main Floor in the Officer’s Mess , 750 9 Avenue S.E. Calgary, Monday, June 27 at 11:00 AM. The relationship between Fort Calgary and the RCMP makes this location a perfect setting. Diane Gordon, Director of Hbc Heritage and Community Investment from The Hudson Bay Company will be in attendance for major announcement. Family members of the fallen officers will also be on hand to address those in attendance. We will hear from Constable Doug Winkleman, the pin’s founder, on the history and effort that has gone into this project. Proceeds will go to funds established to assist the families and other dedicated memorial initiatives.
The public is invited to attend this launch, 2000 pins will be available on a first come, first served basis.
