OUR BROTHERS

It was on an early March morning,

When life was full of happiness and joy.

That our four Mounties diligently worked,

It wasn’t that long ago, each was just a boy.

Doing a job they all had longed for,

Wearing the Scarlet with honour and pride.

You were all taken from us without notice,

A march in your honour being led by the Musical Ride.

To tell of what happened so the future may know,

In these few short lines I will try to show.

With sadness in my heart and tears in my eyes,

I will only say “see you all later”, there will be no goodbyes.

It was on a farm in central Alberta,

That a known criminal named James Roszko evilly lurked.

A Sheriff arrived to seize a Ford truck,

With a plan that always worked.

Out came a man with obscenity spouting,

Jesters and words and continually shouting.

In a truck he did jump he departed with quickness,

Leaving the Sheriff with a feeling of uneasiness.

On the phone to the Mounties he did place a call,

And waited for the arrival of the police to the farm.

Two dogs Roszko did leave snarling and growling away,

Upon the Mounties arrival they entered careful to stay out of harm.

They entered a Quonset, oh so bleak and so dark,

Careful they said booby traps he may have placed.

Look at all those truck parts do you smell that I think it’s a grow,

The search stopped here to get a warrant they raced.

Upon getting their warrant they continued the search,

Removing a small marijuana grow.

The hour was late they’ll continue in the morning,

Leaving a guard to secure the sight the rest did go.

The morning arrived with no sign of trouble,

Two more officers came so meek and so humble.

Entering the Quonset they all did go,

The start of what led the world for so many to crumble.

James Roszko was now hiding within,

And guns a blazing and bullets now flying.

Our Brothers no chance, no warning, were taken by surprise,

I’m sure given the chance they would have all been trying.

Now we all mourn in our own ways,

The loss of these Brothers we all wish were here these days.

A promise we will make to each of you

You will always be remembered you walked the line so true.

Comments: My thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the fallen officers who gave their lives to protect the public. I had worked with police officers for 25 years, until I recently retired. I too lost a good friend 2 1/2 years ago when he was killed in the line of duty. Although they are not here physically, I know their spirits live on and still watch over us. My deepest sympathies to all.

Comments: I am so sorry for the lose of these young Constables. They didnt deserve this to happen to them and they will never be forgotten. The deaths of these officers hit close to home as I have a cousin who is in the RCMP. Peter, Brock, Anthony, and Lionide showed people who would normally be ignored light and love. If only everyone could do what they did, be like they were. They were making a difference.

Comments: As an EMT who worked up north I slightly understand what the RCMP have to deal with everyday. This was such an immense tragedy, and I think that something should be done. The laws that are made are not helping our officers do their jobs because the criminals are being let out time and time again. These people are put away for a reason. I have a co-worker who went to school with Roszko, she said he wasn't normal then, so why was he able to live free? Our justice system let these four heros down.

We realize when we join the police force it’s to make a difference in our lives and others. We never really know what lay ahead of them each and everyday that we leave our home, but without these brave men and women of all law enforcement agencies - we would not have the safety that we have come to expect. We must stand proud and with honour for the lost of our four brothers because the sacrifices that these four heroes have made to protect us has made it safer. I would like to thank you for I have been praying for the families and for all police officers. My wife still tells me to be careful each day. And she is praying for the families also.

I thought it should be shared with the families to show the love and support they have, even from the young: RIPPLES, by Hayley Kenyon As each drop falls all solid and grand Some people's lives are just being planned With an engagement, kids, and careers too No one could understand the pain they went through As a ripple, their lives faded away But we will remember them after that day Their families lie in bed in tears with only memories they have to keep because their love for them was so true and deep And now I sit and wonder If they are safe up with the man who makes thunder So let's all stand proud and tall Before another drop begins to fall. dedicatd to the four slain RCMP officers who sacrificed their lives for our safety. We grew up in central Alberta. I knew of young Brock, and my younger sister was a classmate of his for 12 years. We all are too aware of the sacrifice made by these four heroes. I will continue to refer to them as such as anyone can see it is what they are. In closing, I wish to express my sincerest condolences again to the families. You, above all, have shown incredible strength through this period and continue to do so. Each and every one of you have a constant reminder of your lost loved ones in the image of the RCMP. I hope and pray that the reminder will always remain a proud one. We are indebted to you and your lost loved ones.

Comments: I wish all the families of the fallen heroes and RCMP members condolences on the loss of four of the finest individuals that were, and still are, part of a bigger picture in life. The duty of all members is very much realized is this instance and we have to really understand what the men and women of the RCMP face every day. If the general public only knew...... but then, maybe that's better for us all. To have others continue to go about their daily lives without having to see the atrocities and abuse that exists behind closed doors. That is what these four members stand for, the drive for us all to make the world a better place to live and, as members, have the strength beyond the ordinary individual to go on, allowing everyone else to get home to their familes daily. It is this very realization that makes me proud to be a member of the RCMP and forces a stronger resolve to continue in the face of adversity. This incident hit very close to home for my family. Comments: This is a short story for everyone. IT is called "A COP ON THE TAKE". First he takes the oath. Now look at all he takes... He takes it with stride when people call him a pig. He takes time to stop and talk to your children. He takes your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserve. He takes on creeps you would be afraid to even look at. He takes time away from his family to keep you safe. He takes your injured children to hospital. He takes the graveyard shift without complaint because it is his turn. He takes his life into his hands daily. He takes you home when your car breaks down. He takes time to explain why both your headlights have to work. He takes the job no one else wants; telling you your loved one has died. He takes criminals to jail. He takes in sights that would make you cry. Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to. If he is lucky he takes retirement. He takes memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day. S

There are eight of us here serving in Bosnia who were deeply saddened and felt this loss as if it were one of our very own. I think we all realize in police work that this is the worst thing that could happen yet we still believe in what we do and I'm sure none of us would have second thoughts about doing it all over again given the opportunity. Let's hope something positive comes out of this to change the world we live in today and ensure we keep Canada one of the best countries to live in. These boys gave the ultimate price for keeping our communities safe and they must always be remembered for that as well as the sacrifices of their families who lent these fine young men to us. Comments: Looking back on the memory of The dance we shared beneath the stars above For a moment all the world was right How could i have Known you'd ever say goodbye And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the dance. But I'd of missed the dance Holding you I held everything For a moment wasn't I the king But if I'd only known how the king would fall Hey who's to say you know I might have changed it all And now I'm glad I didn't know The way it all would end the way it all would go Our lives are better left to chance I could have missed the pain But I'd of had to miss the dance.

Comments: In expressing regret, words are only a pale shadow compared to the feelings we hold inside, but in a situation like this, words are all we have. As a hopeful applicant to the RCMP, I've had many people ask me if this tragedy has shaken my resolve. I can only answer them by saying that this shows that there is much more work to be done, and if this would deter anyone they shouldn't have considered this way of life in the first place. My family's thoughts and prayers are with yours. I will constantly endeavour to keep their memory alive. This was certainly a human tragedy of historical scope.

Comments: The nation will always remember this terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers are with each and every family member and friend who were affected by this loss. We realize that theses fine young men (women) join the RCMP to make a difference in our lives. We never really know what lay ahead of them each and everyday that they leave their home, but without these brave men and women - we would not have the safety that we have come to expect. Our family is now in the same position as any other family with a member on the force. Our son will graduate in August - his response to us was - it could happen any day present or future, but that doesn't change what I want to do with my life. Realize that you are not alone the nation mourns with you

Brave Souls" Men and women dressed in different uniforms, they kiss there familys goodbye with a see ya later to follow. Who knew your work would be dangours, but then again its what you love, the job. It takes a lot of many brave souls to get into that uniform, its not because they want to be better then the next. It's because the want to help people, this isn't a game its something that happens. You go in like a winner and you come out a winner, remember this, "God is the one you can count on." You risk your life just to keep us safe, and we all thank you all for doing your job best. There comes a time when we all must fall, but you all fall in honour, We will always remember the officers that wore the red, blue and white uniforms. By: Yvonne V. Lessard Lac La Biche, Ab

I stayed up late on March 3rd(the eve of my young daughter's birthday) not being able to take my eyes off of the coverage, heartbroken for these officers who were braver than I was able to be. Distraught for the families left behind. Knowing it could have been me. It could have been anyone of the young men or woman who put on their sidearms to protect us from the evils of our society. To the families, your loved ones are true heros. Having had a glimpse into the reality of being an officer of the law, I can tell you, there are none more courageous. They have touched all of Canada and I remember their names well. I believe that they will be forever etched in my mind. God bless you and keep you. Comments: Such a devastating a senseless loss of four of Canada's finest. As these four young men took pride in their career choice of the RCMP ... prouder still would be their families, friends and collegues. They belonged to you. And as Canadians ... they belonged to our country. We all lost and we will never forget the heros that they will always be. My heartfelt sympathy and God bless.
